Grand Union Canal Paddle Out and Back

An easy and quick paddle along the Grand Union Canal. W made this route when we figured out you could no longer get onto the river soar from this location, so we just made it a circular route. Lovely scenery, and the Hope & Anchor pub is worth a stop.

Step by step
5 steps · written by the contributor- 1Take a right at first to explore down the canal towards where you used to be able to get onto the River Soar from here. The River Soar entrance from here has since overgrown and is no longer accessible, but paddle down to have a look.
- 2Turn round at this point, on your right you’ll see where the river soar used to be accessible from this canal. Just after you pass under a small bridge. The river soar entrance is currently behind railings and overgrown plants. Turn round and head back up, passing by the point where you started.
- 3Keep on going until you hit a canal lock, this is where you’ll be turning round.
- 4Here you pass the Hope & Anchor pub, where we stopped for some refreshments, before heading back to the starting point, just a little further down stream.
- ✓Get out where you got in, pulling up on the right hand side of the canal.
