What's behind the verdict.

Not a score, not an algorithm mystery. Four checks, each against this route. Any one of them can turn the card amber or red, and the card always says which one did.

Wind vs shoreline
Direction matters more than speed. 12 mph onshore is a workout; 12 mph offshore is a rescue statistic. Each route knows which way its water faces.
Tide vs your timings
On tidal routes the verdict is computed for your launch window, not the day. An estuary at slack water and the same estuary mid-ebb are different rivers.
Gauge vs the contributor’s range
Where a route’s contributor has recorded the range they consider runnable, the live Environment Agency gauge reading is reported against it, plus rate of rise. It is their judgement, not a safety verdict.
